Are flat screen LCD monitors ready?

I've been using a LaCie CRT monitor for my Photoshop work. Until now, I've
understood that LCD screens didn't have the depth necessary for good color
work. I'd like to hear some opinions on this subject - in preparation for
purchasing my next monitor. Thanks.........

Re: Are flat screen LCD monitors ready?

certainly not the type of working man one normally meets in a PS group !!
We have lots of express machines here in Miami
Cuban coffee shops use them, and I see the repair man there frequently!

The employ I am leaving is an insurance company, so yes I do/have done
claim and failure investigation work.
Whist a large proportion of our work is on low temperature hot water
stuff for insurance and landlord's records type of thing, the main
thrust of our work is statutory examinations on steam boilers and
pressure vessels, such as air and gas receivers, nuclear reactors and
Petrochemical refineries and chemical works. From the sublime to the
ridiculous in size and risk factor and all done by the same surveyors
- (I have done a major fractionating column (200ft +) in a chemical
works and a little office heating boiler in the same day!!)
These require such examinations in the UK and the majority or the rest
of the world come to that, every so often by law. We do those
statutory examinations.
Don't be surprised at how many steam boilers are about you and each
can cause quite nasty injuries if they fail.
Look at Dry Cleaning shops. Usually quite a large one for the still
and presses. Cafe's with their coffee machines - some work up to
silly pressures now. Not just locomotives or big factory boilers,
although there are plenty of them about, especially in food factories
and the paper and brewing industries

interesting job you got there Boiler Bill
You do boiler inspecting for insurance claims??
not sure we even use boilers anymore in America
unless you count the hot water heater,
maybe it's the same thing? I think if the pilot light goes out it can make a
gas blow up and fire??
but if you ever come to Miami
I can tell you of a private collector of antique machines
I think you'd like to see his collection

Re: Are flat screen LCD monitors ready?

I bought an LG screen back in early 2003 useless for most things except
some word processing and space saving. Also back then bought a trinitron
21" CRT which I use for photos.
Now also having a Samsung LCD I can use either the CRT or LCD without
problem - yes how things have changed.
