Recover flattened psd

Hi,
I made a rookie mistake in a hurry.
1) I saved final psd in Photoshop
2) moved it to ImageReady
3) flattened it
4) optimized jpg for web and saved it
5) minutes later I closed ImageReady and overwrited original layered
psd by flattened psd
So now I don't have layered psd anymore and future changes aren't
possible. Is there way to recover earlier version or is my file
eternaly gone?
I'm 99% sure that I have to do all my work again, but I'm asking
anyway...
Thanks,
Buda

There should never be a reason to flatten a Photoshop file while you are
working on it. Saving for Web or saving a copy in a format that does not
permit layers flattens automatically; you don't have to flatten the
image, which decreases the chance of automatically saving a flat version
over a layered version.

Re: Recover flattened psd

I feel sorry for you, Buda... Something very similar has happened to me
a couple of times.
:-(
There is something you can do (at least in CS2) to try to avoid this
kind of things happening too easily in the future. (This doesn't work
for every situation, though.) When this has happened to me, it happened
because I was too eager to hit Ctrl+S and close the file. What I've
done now is change the shortcut for Save, and I made Ctrl+S the
shortcut for Save As... (Edit > Keyboard shortcuts) This is not bullet
proof, though, but at least it forces me to "think" before saving the
file.
Anyway, I think the best method is to make backups regularly while you
work.

As has been pointed out, there is nothing that can be done now. This is a
great reason to save variations along the way. For me, Save & Save_As are too
close, and I have *almost* hit the wrong one at the wrong time.
If you are in CS CS2 and have your History set to Log the History into a TXT
file, you might be able to at least look at that, to see what you did in the
creation process. Unfortunately, one can only use that file as a guideline to
re-do the work.
Sorry - we've all either been there, or been so close to there that the hair
still stands up on the back of our necks.

Re: Recover flattened psd

If you closed the saved flattened file, you are out of luck. BTW, you
didn't really need to flatten it, as IR does that automatically when
Saving Optimized As...
