Converting Hand Drawn Art Into Vector Art?

Just wondering:
How would one convert hand drawn art into computer vector art?
I own Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop ... I'm somewhat experienced with the
programs, but there's ALLOT I don't know about them. Is there a way to do
it with these programs, other than the 'trace' tool?
Is there a program that does this easily?
Other than the programs I have or another 'perhaps' expensive program, is
there any other way to acheive this?
What I want to do:
Draw my own art (let's just say a pumpkin for now) - be able to take that
art and give it effects such as I can do in Illustrator.
All suggestions and information gladly welcomed!
Dee

Hey Dave,
Hmm??? Well, I love Illustrator .. and that's what I learned on .. so think
I'll stay with that. I'm going to buy CS2 when I get the money together.
I have heard good things about Corel though .. so someday I might check it
out. :-)

to do
Depending on what you expect the outcome to be, it's not always a great
idea to automate tracing. LiveTrace, I've heard, works pretty well, but
you will always end up with awkward shapes.
I much prefer tracing by hand if the output is meant to be a "graphic
interpretation," or logo. Sure, it's time consuming, but anything worth
doing is worth doing right. Right?

Hi Dee,
Illustrator CS2 has a feature called 'Live Trace' which does exactly what
you want.
Works pretty good. If you have CS2, it's all in the help files.
But basicly, you import a photo/drawing into Illustrator (place/copy-paste)
and hit the live trace button.
There are some presets or you can make your own settings.
