Another Day Another Camera

Yes, faithful friends, and the kooks and loons, too, last weekend on my (at
least) annual trip to Chicago, I decided to do more than just browse Central
Camera, I decided to buy a camera! No, it's not digital, in fact, it's not
even 35mm (apologies for the OT post)--it's medium-format. One could say
this camera has a stellar reputation for quality of lens and robustness of
build, but one would have to be tongue in cheek, ignorant, or out-right
lieing to do so--I bought a Holga. ;-)

Good fun, and surprisingly easy to use. Cost $19. Just look at that lovely
lens flare!

IrfanView (http://irfanview.com/) will convert numerous graphics formats
to .ico. I think you may need to download the separate filters, though.

Re: Another Day Another Camera

IE (the originator of the favicon) is the worst implementation.
In order to have it work:
- Grab the title bar with your mouse and 'shake'. Sometimes this gets
it to recognize the favicon.
If that doesn't work:
- Delete any favorites which reference the site.
- Blow cache: Tools > Internet Options > 'Delete Files' button
- Restart IE. Re-add the favorite
Sometimes it will spontaneously appear. Regardless, you have to have a
favorite set.
Wikipedia's article on favicons is pretty good:

Works in everything except IE6. I do think I have a broken browser
though, it won't automatically display any menus with ActiveX controls -
have to click 'em first to activate. I've tried everything I know to fix
it, but I'm still activating menus on every page... :-(
But how come Matt's shows up in my IE6?

Re: Another Day Another Camera

Just read on a German site (after googling for "favicon.ico") that after
adding
the icon to the files on the server, the line
<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="http://www.domain.xy/ordner/favicon.ico">
should be added to the HEAD section of your page.
Haven't tried it (am at work) but give it a try and let us know.

Nope, didn't work (unless I am doing something wrong on the server
side). IS Internet Exploder supposed to automatically recognise this
icon or do I need to include some code in the header?

16x16 pixels max. Save as a GIF or JPEG and rename the file to FAVICON.ICO
