JPEG to TIFF

Recently I was given a Dimage Z6 digital camera. There aren't any options
to shoot in TIFF or RAW, only JPEG.
If I do a batch conversion to a TIFF format, will I actually achieve
anything useful or will I just be increasing the file size with little gain?

Like the other responder said just keep the JPG's and then when you edit and
image then save it to TIF or PSD. It is after you edit and then need to
resave the image that you want to move away from JPG because if you edit and
then just do save you are basically doubling the data loss from the JPG
compression.
I also recommend that you keep your JPGs because some programs will strip
out the EXIF data and that data is important. Some programs can use the data
to help fix the images. So if you always have your JPGs you will always have
the information. Photoshop shouldn't strip this data out, most good programs
shouldn't but one never knows. If you use Save for Web in Photoshop to save
a JPG the data along with other things will be stripped out.

You can -=gain=- what isn't there!
However, when you do work on the images, -=then=- it's time to save that in
..psd or.tif.
FWIW, I archive all my original .jpg's on CD JIC! <G>
