Vivitar V3000S

I'm looking for a fullt mechanical camera with K attack.
A friend offer me a Vivitar V3000S.
What do you think about it?
Has it a "double expo" capability?
Have you an idea of a fair price?
Thanks

Vas

Re: Vivitar V3000S

I have the P30T in my own arsenal of equipment, and I am quite pleased with
it. You can take bulb exposures and it takes about 10 hours to exhaust a
fresh set of batteries, so the battery issue is not all that bad.
If you want mechanical you have several excellent Pentax alternatives. You
could always consider the K-1000, for example. Pure mechanical, no self
timer (you can do with a featureless camera, since you already have two
others that have automated features). If you want fully mechanical, you'll
get much better build quality with a Pentax model than you will with a
generic. And parts are more readily available, should you need a CLA.
Finally, the resale value of a genuine Pentax camera will always be higher,
meaning that if you eventually sell or trade it you may recoup most of your
initial investment. If top quality is important to you, consider the MX and
LX. They were Pentax's heavy-duty models.

What about a Cosina C1s, instead?

Re: Vivitar V3000S

I take architectural or panoramic photos, using slides.
I'm looking for a mechanical camera because I want to start taking
nigth photos (long exposure, maybe star tracks and so on).
So I'm looking for fully mechanical not to have batteries problems.
I need double expo because I want to join moon and panoramas.
Now I have Pentax 20-70 and 70-300 mm but I'm looking for a 20mm too.
Now I have a Pentax P30T as a backup body of my MZ7 and I want to
substitute it with the new camera for my travels.
Thank you for your info.

Re: Vivitar V3000S

...
I am not familiar with that particular model, but the general consensus is
that Vivitar cameras don't have the build quality of Pentax. A quick check
of eBay and other used camera sources will reveal that Vivitar bodies are
not nearly as plentiful as Pentaxes.
If reliability and build quality are important to you, you may find that you
should look elsewhere.
KEH has some Vivitar models (with prices) listed on their web site.
If you would tell us what kind of photos you take, whether you require auto
exposure, how much rough handling you will give the camera, what lenses you
now have, or will require, we can be more specific in responding to you.
