yeah I thought that looked "familiar"
plus she came back saying"I still need help" when I bothered to re-type "how
to" just above that
not to mention this and other ways to do that are on just about any tutorial
site, maybe even the HELP files....
LAZY and forgetful will not take you far in this world............add

In article <4bhsg.536$Rj3.239@fe11.lga>,
Step 1: Use the Lasso tool to select the part of the image that should
be in color.
Step 2: Click on the Select menu and choose the Inverse command.
Step 3: Click on the Image menu, point your mouse to Adjustments, and
choose Hue and Saturation.
Step 4: Slide the Saturation slider all the way to the left.

Janey, Let me remind you how you did it March of this year ...
"I have this pic that i want the person in black and white . and i need
the date taken off and the foot onleft upper corner out too . Plus i
want the towel where her head is laying on in its colors and help with
taking out the white part ( shorts] out and blend in the color green of
the towel. i will send the original pic from rapidshare and if u can
send back to me . I'll be forever greatful.. :};}" Then you wrote "I
need to take classes on photoshop.."
I would suspect that from March of this year till now would be enough
time to at least learn the basics.. ergo, as Katwoman said and put it so
eloquently... "this is a group to share knowledge of how to use PS
YOURSELF"
Does that refresh your memory?.. Use me once shame on me... use me
twice... I don't think so!!!!
Hope this helps motivate you,

myJanee has some very good tutorials for beginners. I don't know
which one covers adjustment layers for this purpose, but go to:

...
make an adjustment layer
move center slider left to desaturate
paint on the layer mask of the adjustment layer in black on the areas you
want back to color
make sure to try varying the opacity of the black brush to get a more subtle
look

...
You have to use the selection tools to select the items you wish to remain
in colour and then click on select > inverse selection and then use whatever
method you are going to use to convert to B&W
