How do i create a swatch?

I have a number of numerical colour references that i would like to form
a swatch with. i can find no way of entering numerical data to create
swatches.

Once you have the color you want in the Color Picker just bring your
cursor to a blank square in the Swatches Palette. The cursor will turn
into a paint bucket and add to the palette. You will have to key in the
values in the naming dialog though. I guess drag was the wrong term.

it's a series of rgb values.
i can drag swatch colours to the colour picker, but not the other way
around. am i missing something obvious? (other than a few brain cells)

What do you mean by numerical references? RGB (or CMYK) values? Set the
color in the Color Picker, drag to Swatches palette. You can make your
own Swatches set (palette) in the Preset Manager.
