I cropped your, "Mediocre" river shot to make it more to my liking....It
only cuts out some of the business of surrounding objects. I didn't find it
necessary to straighten it out, however. See the change at:

And therein lies the problem with the original shot. To my eye when
shooting, the flawed attempt to trailer this boat created a quirky
juxtaposition of elements against the background of the river.
None of this shows up in the shot, nor in the other three I shot of
the same struggle. Instead, I ended up with a nothing composition plus
poor technical execution. Instead, I needed to pick up my camera and
find a different subject.
For the car shoot, I think I'll go back to the 35mm.
