Canon FD hood question

I have several Canon FD lenses with the proper hoods for them. However, some
of these bayonet hoods have become quite loose and no longer fit as snugly
as when new. Is there a trick someone knows that will restore the snugness
so the hood doesn't fall off when focusing the lens?

Yuki, your idea sounds plausible.

If you look carefully to the inside of the lip of the hood, next to the
indentations, you'll see some semitransparent strips of soft material that
provide the friction for the hood to stay in place. With the age they degrade
and become goo.
Pop them out with a needle, clean the slot and substitute with a little strip
cut from some suitable material like semi-hard rubber or cork. You'll need to
experiment with the size, do not make them too tight to avoid cracking the hood.
As good as new.

Hi Ken.
It's not hard to find decent almost-new hoods on the second-hand market here
in the UK.
Come to think of it, it may not be too difficult to find new stock on a
dealer's shelf somewhere.
I recently bought a brand-new case for my EOS IX and that's quite an old
camera.

Step up/down filter adapters are useful for this purpose, too......

Re: Canon FD hood question

If the lens isn't too W/A you could either glue the hood to your UV/sky
filter or (if you don't like using filters) pop the glass out of a
cheap filter, & glue the hood to the filter ring. Then your bayonet
hood is a screw-in hood.
