[SI] Shoot-In: Do something new

Hi gang! Yes, it's that time again (or actually, past that time, but
I won't tattle on you). So without any further delay in attempting to reach
our mandate-provider, we bring you:
"Brand New
The goal is to find the newest subject you can, preferably at the moment of
its appearance."
- apocryphally attributed to Al Denelsbeck

Due Sunday, August 20.
Attack it with gusto!
Amd if you have no idea what this all means, check out
http://www.pbase.com/shootin, skim the rulz, and send something in.

Hmmm, cut the grass or just lie down in it and have fun. Tricky....

..
After seeing that pic I can't decide whether to mow my lawn today or
just go lay in it and take pics with the 65mm MP-E.

I never saw a wheel bug in northwest Ohio, where I grew, up nor in
Cleveland when I was at Case. The adults are hard to miss.

@newsread1.news.pas.earthlink.net:
Wheel Bugs, a variety (or stage, not sure which) of Assassin Bug,
Arilus cristatus. Eats other insects.
This link might explain slightly more.

If the shots look familiar, it's because Jim lives about 7 miles
from me and alerted me when the egg cluster was hatching ;-)
Somewhere on that site is a sequence of pics showing the entire
life cycle, but I can't locate it. Maybe Jim'll jump in.
Keep da bugs out yo 'hood ;-)
I should probably note that the entire egg cluster covers less
surface area than a dime - these guys are little. As they were hardening
up after hatching, black ants were making off with them.
You probably have plenty around you, but you'd see them looking
more like this:

... and those are blades of plain ol' lawn grass.

Can't get away that easy: What are the
critters? Where did you find them? How can
I make sure there are/aren't any in the
'hood?
