Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

Sorry, not the case. I've had several lenses and found this problem,
which is described at http://members.aol.com/manualminolta/sr2.htm as
Type 1 lenses for the SR-1 and SR-2 cameras. I was only suggesting it's
simplier to just avoid these lenses and stay with MC and MD lenses.

Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

The SR-2's lens were the same as other SR lens except for a couple of
auto lens. I have a 100mm f/3.5 auto lensfor the SR-2 that works fine
on my other Minoltas. These lens allowed for full aperture focusing
and composing and would stopdown when you tripped the shutter. The
linkage in the camera body (not the lens) stayed in the stopdown
position till you cocked the shutter thus allowing the lens aperture
to reopen. The SR-2 lens were also compatable with other SR models.
There were however a couple of prototype lens that were not mass
produced designed for the SR-2. These later became known as MC lens.
All Minolta manual focus cameras used the same register and aperture
lever location therefore allowing use of all SR mount lens on all of
the models. Even the SR mirror boxes will fit in a SRT..I have a SR-7
mlu mirror box in my SRT-102..
Scratching of the mirror was caused be improper mounting of the lens
which could and has happened on the SR cameras since the aperture
connecting lever was slightly different than newer MC versions and in
many cases was bent by improper handling. This lever is easily bent on
these lens.

Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

The SR-2 lenses were specific to the SR-2 camera and will damage other
camera bodies. The aperture linkage is longer, hitting the mirror, and
in a different place, and won't work corrrectly with non SR-2 cameras.
I have had some SR-2 lenses and learned the hard way (mirror
scratched). Otherwise, the year was mentioned as a safe generality, and
it's really best to stay with MC and MD lenses. I have an early 1960's
21mm f4.5 lens that requires MLU. It's a fun lens to use.

Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

Since when??
Most of these were auto lens without any kind of meter coupling..just
the Minolta SR lens mount..BTW: All Minolta manual focus cameras use
the SR lens mount...
I've used SR-series lens on my SRT's many times without problems. I've
even used them on my XD-11 and X-700 without problems. Some of these
are known as Auto lens which will require stopdown metering since they
have no meter coupling tabs etc..
Check out the below link...
http://www.rokkorfiles.com/Lens%20History.html
Most 101's have mirror lockup..
I believe the 20mm lens is the only one that requires mirror lockup.
Anybody know of any other Minolta brand lens other than the above
mentioned 20mm that requires mirror lockup??
I couldn't agree more..except you say almost..I have yet to find a bad
Minolta lens..
The later Leitz/Minolta designed zooms are outstanding lens.
Mostly made of plastic but yes the optics are in reality excellent.

Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

They were targeted toward the consumer and you will find them IMHO focal
length/apeture combinations that were more popular with consumers.
Sigma lenses of that vintage were general bad to poor with some good
exceptions. In the last few years their high end lenses have become very
good, but they also make "extremely cheap crap to sell by chain stores
at high profit" lenses YMMV. It won't matter as they have not made
lenses for that mount in a very long time.
Other good brands are Kiron, and often Vivitar. Some Vivitar Series 1 lenses
were made by Kiron and are excelent. There is at least one web site
dedicated to Kiron lenses, STFW.

Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

Any Minolta manual focus lens made after 1960. Some made before fit but
won't work as they were made for SR-series cameras and have different
linkage that will damage SRT-series camera mirrors. And some lens
require Mirror Lock-Up (MLU), so your SRT-101 will require that
mechanism. And remember, Minolta almost all of the lenses that will fit
your camera are good to excellent lenses, especially the fixed focal
length lenses. Celtic lenses share the same optics but were made with
different materials to different standards, why they're cheaper. And
third party lenses have the range of quality, usually name brand,
Sigma, Tamron and Tokina are good to excellent, but the rest are
generally worse.

Re: minolta srt101 lens compatibility

Any MD or MC lens will work. The auto Rokkor lens made for the
SR-series cameras will also work with stopdown metering.
Autofocus lens will not work though.
