Slaving a Canon 550 EX.

I'm off to dig up the manual, but in the meantime can anyone tell me if,
when using the 550 EX as a slave (to a 580 EX), can I manually stop down
the flash output while it's in slave mode? I've tried, but can't seem to
get there.
Or, if I put the 580 in Master (or Slave) Mode off camera, will the
on-camera flash compensation setting control that flash when it's off
camera?
Finally, if everything is in ETTL mode, will the on camera flash comp.
setting control the output of both units?
