OK...Wide Angle IS at 1/4th...

Same shot, but 1/4th second (actually .03 seconds, which is even slower).

Yes....I notice the KLH catalog (that I get regularly) advertises them as a
cure for moving subjects, as well as camera shake...This, of course is
absolutely wrong....As a matter of fact, if you are going to an auto race or
other sporting event, you would be well advised to leave your IS/VR lenses
at home. They can only sucker you into using a too slow shutter speed......

Re: OK...Wide Angle IS at 1/4th...

This is the problem; many people get caught up in all this marketing hype
and think IS/VR is the cure-all for everything. And most people, as we are
reading, try to use IS/VR as a band-aid to mask poor technique. There's
nothing magical about it, IS/VR can be a real shot saver in many
circumstances.

Re: OK...Wide Angle IS at 1/4th...

Excellent point....I've never seen any good technical specifications on IS
(Canon) or VR (Nikon) lenses. Exactly how much camera shake, (frequency and
amplitude) will they handle? The ads do a lot of f-stop hand waving, (no pun
intended) but there is very little detailed information.....

Re: OK...Wide Angle IS at 1/4th...

The shutter was open for 0.3 seconds. ".03" was a typo.
Normally, a .3 second exposure time would render a very blurry image due to
the nearly inevitable movement of the camera in your hand.

Re: OK...Wide Angle IS at 1/4th...

.... or is that what the .03 seconds is about?

Not bad for hand held @1/4 of a second! But how fast is the "stabilizing"? Is it
worth waiting for, for the money? (not experienced)

Re: OK...Wide Angle IS at 1/4th...

Oops. That should say *0.3* seconds (3/10th).
